Welcome to Aging Victoriously
Does embarking on the journey of aging sound challenging to you? Answering yes would not be a surprise to me! As we move past 50, our bodies undergo changes due to hormonal shifts, and our energy levels may begin to wind down. That’s a fact of life—something we can’t control. But here’s the empowering truth: we don’t have to surrender to these changes or let them define us. Aging doesn’t have to feel like an arduous mountain climb; instead, it can become a relaxing stroll along a sunlit beach, filled with discovery, wisdom, and joie de vivre.
The choice is yours, and the question to ask yourself is very simple: How do I imagine approaching my next chapter? Below are a few insights I’ve uncovered that have given me a new perspective and a renewed sense of joie de vivre. It is my great pleasure to share them with you!
Our Mindset Defines Our Age
Our thoughts shape our reality. Your mind doesn’t know the difference between what’s “real” and what’s “imagined,” so why not imagine yourself as a vibrant, energetic, and thriving human being? I want to use my mother as an example. Now in her 90s, she is my role model for aging victoriously. Her motto is: “No matter what, never stop moving.” Keep moving your body, keep exercising, and don’t just sit there watching TV and eating bonbons because you told yourself you’re tired and not young anymore. Instead, take action. Imagine yourself feeling youthful, energetic, unstoppable, and loving the life you have created.
Just remember: what you focus on expands and becomes your reality. So ask yourself, what reality do I choose to have?
Age is just a number—a construct that doesn’t have to limit our potential or diminish our zest for life. It’s just a thought in our mind, similar to a cloud passing by in a big blue sky, which we can observe without placing any importance on it.
Never forget that you are the master of your mind. You have complete control over it, and no one else does! You just need to spend time training it to respond to your commands. Be patient; it does not happen overnight! To remind myself of needing to work on my fickle mind, I’ve designed this affirmation, which I use daily and share with my clients: “I Can, I Do, I Will, and nothing and no one can stop me from being the best version of myself.” This transformational power is in your hands—or rather, in your mind. Every day, practice reframing your mindset. Anytime you catch yourself saying, “I am old,” erase it and replace it with, “I am timeless and unstoppable.” Notice how quickly your feelings change and how good you can feel!
Let’s Watch Our Self-Talk
Words are powerful—they can either uplift or discourage us. What do you want? Don’t let yourself fall into the habit of self-criticism or of diminishing your abilities. Wouldn’t you rather be your own greatest cheerleader than your harshest critic?
To accomplish this, you have two languages to choose from:
The language of the heart, filled with encouraging words to declare your victories—no matter how small they may be—to celebrate your progress, no matter how slow it may be— and to affirm your boundless potential no matter how daunting it may be.
The language of hurt, filled with pain, guilt, sadness, and discouragement, which tries to put you down, to make you feel hopeless and to convince you to believe and affirm “I’m too old for that.” A complete lie—and deep down, you know it!
Remind yourself every day that words are the seeds of change, and that we are responsible for planting them wisely.
Our Journey Ahead
Let’s remind ourselves that aging is not the end of the road; it’s just a different beginning. It’s an opportunity to live more consciously, to embrace what truly matters, and to let go of what no longer serves us.
Let’s accept that every stage of life brings its own challenges and rewards. The secret to aging victoriously is to meet each moment with courage, curiosity, and an open heart.
Let’s decide to see this journey as a gift— as a chance to rediscover our strength, our passion, and our zest for life.
